This church, raised on the site of an older building, was consecrated in the name of Saint Matthew on 20 Sep 1814. Worship was removed to a more inland site in 1873, but the churchyard and  church interior remained in use as a burial ground. Generations of Swantons, Shannons, Sweetnams, Trinders, Wolfes and Bechers are buried here.
